I believe photojournalists ethics should be situational because there are times when you may need to emphasize something with slight lighting changes or crop something that's just taking up room in a photo.
A photo doesn't really capture the truth. Sounds that were happening at the time of the photo cannot be captured. Sometimes it looks different to the actual human eye, than can be captured in a photograph. And actions that show feelings can be captured but actual feelings cannot be captured either, so I don't believe that a photo ever really captures the truth.
Decisions that I have had to make to edit photos are just lighting and cropping. When we did the "edit shoot" assignment we had to change the sizes of photos and make sure the levels were all good in the photo.
It is important that news organizations have clearly defined standards because if they didn't, they might lose their credibility. People might think that they could just lie whenever they wanted or fake photos all the time. I think it's really more for their audience than for the actual photographers.

Dove Evolution of Beauty
changes made to the model's face:
- bigger lips
- longer neck
- lower eyes
- bigger eyes/ raising eyebrows
- thinner neck/ lower shoulders
- fuller hair
- thinner face
- enhanced cheekbones
In fashion photography I believe it's ok to change someone's appearance because it is trying to sell a product not a person. It would be worse if someone's face was changed like this that was just in a picture in a newspaper or something and not an ad. I think different changes are ok based on different situations. In fashion photography I believe all the changes they made are ok, but in photojournalism, I believe there should only be cropping, brightness, etc. Photojournalism is supposed to show the truth and tell a story, whereas fashion photography is trying to show "beautiful" people to sell a product. The ethics are effected because they are trying to portray completely different things.
