This photo has a lot of just dead space behind him, so the frame wasn't filled up. He also wasn't doing anything special at the time that was really important to capture.
I think this is a really good photo because whoever took it captured a good moment in which he was using his hands. It's close enough to where there isn't too much dead space, however, I don't like all the distracting things in the background.
